Scotland 2023 Winter Season

If the Scottish Highlands weren’t wild enough in the summer months they definitely are in the winter. I joined several expeditions up to the Scottish mountains in the 2023 Winter to spike my adrenaline and fill up on an unquenchable thirst for escapism and adventure. The remoteness and the constant sense of the wilderness is unlike anything I have experienced before, as for the sense of adventure well that was tackled on the icy slopes of Ben Nevis.

Winter Mountaineering is an extreme sport in every sense of the word. An individual must have a vast knowledge and skill in rope work, climbing, navigation, weather reading and first aid to name a few. All this must also be accomplished in blizzard conditions with howling winds and a sustained fear for your life. Yet there is nothing that makes you feel more alive than being half way up a mountain in the depths of a storm with your friends winding your way up a perfect snowy ridge.
